Priscilla Kibbee

I love to travel all over the globe shopping for textiles to add to my wearable art. I have taught quilting to school children in Nepal, seminole patchwork to seamstresses in Thailand, and jackets and embellishment to quilters in Turkey where I also served as a judge at 2 of their International Quilt Shows. I have created garments for 5 Fairfield and Bernina Fashion Shows and teach classes on embellishment and wearable art. Lately I have been leaning more toward making art quilts.

The Genesee Valley Quilt Show-June 3-5, 2011

The biannual Genesee Valley Quilt Club Show was held last weekend at the Field House at R.I.T. in Rochester. There were around 1000 quilts and garments in the show.

The view of the floor from the snack bar above the show.

On Friday afternoon I gave a Fashion Show of some of my garments. Paula Merino obviously loved modeling this one which was from the last Fairfield Fashion Show in 2000. It is called "Lasha in My Dreams".

The audience loved looking at and trying on the garments after the show.

On Saturday I co-chaired the Project Iron Quilter Competition. 20 contestants had 3 1/2 hours to complete a quilt which was then auctioned off to help support Gilda's Club. We gave them ten choices of a theme, after which they had a mad scramble for fabric from piles on three big tables which we provided. They were also allowed to bring one piece from home.

The day was meant to be a fun time for all and some people really got into it, including Jeanne Simpson and Nancy Hicks who put out a Tip Jar in the middle of their tables.

Show visitors enjoyed wandering through as the day progressed to see how things were going.

Then all the finished quilts were displayed in front for the audience to view while the judges made their decisions.

Kathie Everett won the Grand Prize...a Bernina Sewing Machine for this beauty using the Diet theme. You can see much more information on the Quilt Show and Project Iron Quilter on Beth Brandkamp's blog:

May Genesee Valley Quilt Guild Meeting

The May meeting is always a busy one with the induction of new officers and usually a large show and tell as we wind down for the summer months when we don't meet.

Deb Roach is sporting a Bog Coat Jacket which she made in my class last weekend at the Bobbin Case.  It is made from a hand woven baby carrier which I purchased in Guatemala.

And Margaret Reek trimmed her Bog Coat Jacket from that class in gold and trimmed her black hat to match.  She will be President of the Guild next year.

The 2010 Raffle Quilt has been finished and was displayed this month.  It will be raffled off at the November meeting.  I love the black background.

I will be teaching a two day jacket class for the Guild in March and some of my sample jackets were displayed.

After Show and Tell a break for cookies and conversation is always welcome.

Genesee Valley Quilt Show, Rochester, New York

The view from the second floor snack bar area of the Genesee Valley Quilt Guild Quilt Show this weekend at R.I.T. in Rochester, N.Y. There were over 600 quilts and over 40 venders and the show drew large, steady crowds all day Saturday.

Two of Varda's jackets. Both won prizes.
You can see one of Zylpha Siudara's beautiful quilts in the corner.

One of my small quilts hanging in the SAQA exhibit.

More of Zylpha's beautiful quilts.
Zig and Zag by Susan Valiukas which was a prizewinner in its category.

Genesee Valley Quilt Club Meeting

Our monthly meeting was held today and membership has expanded to 368. Show and tell is always a big part of the meeting and we were surprised that such wonderful quilts were shown just weeks before our big quilt showl I loved the colors on this one using themed fabric.
This was a "one block wonder" quilt.

This was a fabulous appliqued quilt. Unfortunately the racks were on a slant and there was little room to get a good photo.

I just loved this one

Spring Fling- Two Sewing Days in Webster - GVQC

A number of the members of the Geneseee Valley Quilt Club just spent two delightful days sewing in Webster. They were loosely organized days and you brought your own projects. A delicious catered lunch was served both days. One of the projects I worked on was re-working the wolf quilt...obviously without the wolves which are going into another project. It needs squaring up and a border.

A Show and Tell by a member. I don't know who it is as she is standing behind the quilt.

We had problems getting the temperature just right and it waxed and waned between very hot and quite chilly. During one of the very hot moments one of the members by the far wall stripped her shirt off and worked in her bra.

Beth, my table mate, worked on her third I Spy quilt.

And on Day Two I started making a wall quilt out of a beautiful Vietnamese Embroidery.
My friend Pat Pauly has informed me that the embroidery is a copy of a painting by Giuseppe Archimboldo (1527-1593). It is his 1591 portrait of Rudolf II as “V ertumnus” or God of the Seasons and that of Gardens and Fruit Trees, kept now in the Skoklosters Slott, Bålsta (Stockholm)
You can see the photo of the painting and the artist on the top of the page at:

Genesee Valley Quilt Club Meeting

Today was the monthly Genesee Valley Quilt Club meeting. We had an overflow meeting today and additional chairs had to be called for. Show and tell is always a great part of the meeting but today it was so crowded after we hung the quilts that it was hard to take photos. It was great to see such a large turnout. Inspired by Ricky Tims Convergence Quilts.

This was a great wreath made of fabric.

This is Lisa Feor's beauty.

And this amazingly is a one patch wonder.
Janet Root gave a wonderful presentation of her work but I was too far in the back to take photos.

September Meeting Genesee Valley Quilt Club

It was the first meeting of the fall season after what seems like a long summer break. The hall was packed as usual for the first meeting and the high point was, as usual, show and tell. It was hard to photograph some of the quilts because of the crowds. As usual, I don't always have the names of the quilt makers. I know this one was made by Margaret Fahey for her sister and she hopes that her sister won't like it because she does and would like to keep it.
I think Margaret made this one as well with a mask theme.
This was a beauty with an african theme and embroidered animals.
And who could mistake one of Chris Wickert's masterpieces? This one mostly made of silk. Wow!

Genesee Valley Quilt Guild Annual Picnic

Today was the day for our annual picnic which replaces the usual meeting at the Temple on Elmwood Avenue. The setting was the second floor of the Robach Community Center on Beach Avenue in Rochester. One of the high points of the day is the opportunity for members to participate in the annual "yard sale" of unwanted (by the owner) fabric and textiles. Here are some members hard at work. Round tables were set up throughout the room for lunch and conversation.
Pat Berardi had lots of wonderful fabric and terrific prices. My table was in the corner to the right. You can see a few customers.

Enjoying the view of Lake Ontario. There was a small but high quality for sure show and tell after a brief business meeting. This was a hand quilted first quilt.

Another mostly handmade quilt...this time redwork embroidery.
I just loved this one.

A commissioned baby quilt. Lucky baby.
