E.A.T. Day in Ithaca

 After a great lunch at the Ciao Restaurant in Ithaca we retired to Tracy Mclellan's Beautiful old house in Ludlow.

The task for the day was stamping with leaves.

 We managed to make quite a mess in two different rooms.

Hmmm. Not too bad but still needs a bit of work.

The E.A.T. Group from Ithaca comes calling.

Oh Oh, the vacumn is out, that means company is coming.

I think I will just wait right here quietly till it's all over.

The company arrives (the E.A.T. Group from Ithaca) and after a class and lunch its time for show and tell. 

June had woven some strips from some batiks she purchased.

And Tracy had finished a jacket she started at my recent class at Casowasco.

December E.A.T. Meeting

The December E.A.T. meeting is show and tell . This year we met at Quilter's Corner's after a delicious lunch. Our hours have changed and now we eat lunch first. Nancy made this cute felted santa in a class.

June made this pretty quilt in a Carol Taylor class.

This is a pretty piece she made from vintage black glass buttons.

A small piece she made for the Over the Moon Bakery .

And last but not least a doll she made for a beaded piece she found.

I love the colors in this quilt.

This vest is a great way to use those beautiful Asian panels.

A Visit from the E.A.T. Group

The day after my return from my trip to D.C. 7 members of the E.A.T. made their annual visit to my house for a class, Show and Tell and Lunch. I usually plan a short class as we tend to spend a longer than usual time "catching up" with each other.

This was an interesting interpretation of the bird on the left.

It was a beautiful day and after Show and Tell we order lunch from our local Chinese takeout.

On the way home the group stops at Spring Lake Fabrics.

E.A.T. Group Meeting in Ithaca

On Monday I attended the monthly E.A.T. Group meeting in Ithaca at the beautiful Quilter's Corner's Shop.  Their batik area, in particular, is deadly for a fabricaholic. The group was working on a bias scarf made from stretchy rayons or silks. 

The street was decorated with these wonderful pansy boxes.

After all our hard work and show and tell, we head for lunch at  a local resturant.  The group isn't called E.A.T. for nothing.  We tried out a new Japanese restaurant which we pronounced "excellent"

On Sunday i went to Marcia's studio for more work on the Tibetan vest, which I can see will be a fitting challenge. 

E.A.T. Group Meeting, Wolcott

We have sort of begun a tradition of having the June meeting at my house. As usual one member presents a project. At the June meeting since it is at my house it's my turn. My choice was an easy one which had been requested by the group...make and demo a pattern of a silk scarf they all liked which I had worn to a meeting. It was a good project as it didn't require a sewing machine...just lots of silk or soft synthetics. It wasn't long before there was a mound of it in the middle of the table. It had rained earlier but cleared up enough for us to be able to eat lunch on the outside patio. Sally brought some adorable dolls for show and tell. She was inspired by an article in Quilting Arts Magazine.

By midafternoon most people were half to two thirds of the way complete and began modeling their work.

E.A.T. Group Meeting, Ithaca

Monday saw the monthly meeting of the E.A.T. Group at Quilter's Corners in Ithaca. After a work session Show and Tell is always a focal part of the meeting. I loved the use of black in this scrap quilt. June had used scrunched fabric to make a matching blouse for a suit made long ago.

And a hysterical bra for a contest co-sponsored for the shop for Cancer.

This skirt was made from a woven oriental fabric.

This rag rug was made from tee shirts and was last month's class.

We had discussed these blocks once before and they were back for more work.

We had also discussed this one last month and the quilt was now finished.

After show and several of us head out to a delightful French Restaurant for lunch.

E.A.T. Group Meeting in Ithaca

Today was the monthly meeting of the E.A.T. Group in Ithaca. While we do show and tell very month after our class the December meeting is devoted to a lengthier version. June makes the most fabulous dolls. This one was a little old lady with a tiny empty jam pot.

Joanne was finishing up two small commission quilts. This one was based on a hundred year old apple barrel label for a fruit farm in New Hampshire.
This quilt almost blends into the shelves behind it. We meet at Quilters Corners and their shop is moving to a new location next month.

After all our hard work most of us adjourn to the Heights Restaurant around the corner for a bit of lunch. Mine was Atlantic Salmon in a plum sauce with parsnips and potatoes. Yum.

E.A.T. Group Meeting in Ithaca

Today was the E.A.T. Group (advanced design techniques) meeting in Ithaca at Quilter's Corners, the great quilt shop there. I enjoy the drive (except perhaps in January) since it goes right past Cayuga Lake. Today one of the group, Jennifer, demonstrated some techniques which she learned at the Ricky Tims Seminar a few months ago. We all practiced them to varying degrees of competence.
After the demo comes show and tell. June, who makes fantastic dolls, brought in this beautiful pin. She molded the face herself.
After all this hard work most of us retreat to the Heights Cafe nearby for a delicious gourmet lunch. As we waited for our food we discussed the rumor that the quilt shop might move to a downtown location. While we acknowledged that the larger classrooms would be wonderful, this evoked a bit of a panic...where will we go for lunch?
On the way home I encountered two absolutely huge fields of sunflowers. I also took a photo of a sign advertising the upcoming Mosquito Festival next weekend in the Montezuma. Unfortunately it didn't come out. Dying batteries no doubt. One wonders what they might be having for entertainment? Mosquito races? Mosquito look alike contest? Mosquito queen? It staggers the imagination. The town is very near the Seneca River and a wildlife preserve.

The Ithaca E.A.T. Group came for lunch today

A group of 8 women from the E.A.T. Group in Ithaca came for sewing and lunch today accompanied by one guest. The group usually meets monthly at Quilters Corners in Ithaca to learn an advanced sewing technique and then many of us go for lunch at an elegant restaurant just around the corner. I had hoped for nice weather so that we could make some interesting beads with a heat gun outside but thunderstorms were predicted.
So we gathered around my dining room table and made cell phone bags. Our goal for these sessions is for a one hour class.
This is followed by show and tell. June Silberman had brought this gorgeous miniature quilt.
And a hilarious pair of garden gloves. She was inspired to make them after seeing a similar pair for $35 in a local shop.
And Sally Dutko displayed a bowl made from paper mache.

After show and tell we had lunch from the local Chinese takeout resturant on my new patio. This was followed by shopping time in my back room with the fireplace. This is one of the few times I have most of my "wares" displayed as I am getting ready for two sales in Ohio next week.
