Priscilla Kibbee

I love to travel all over the globe shopping for textiles to add to my wearable art. I have taught quilting to school children in Nepal, seminole patchwork to seamstresses in Thailand, and jackets and embellishment to quilters in Turkey where I also served as a judge at 2 of their International Quilt Shows. I have created garments for 5 Fairfield and Bernina Fashion Shows and teach classes on embellishment and wearable art. Lately I have been leaning more toward making art quilts.

Yet Another Day at Marcia's Studio

The Wolf Quilt is quilted with a thread with a bit of sparkle. On to the beading.
Bev had an interesting piece that began as a class exercise.

Inspector Suki has had quite enough of winter...thank you very much.

I played with the Nepalese batiks a bit more on the design wall and rejected a few that were a repeat. I will put them on a black background.

Classes with John Marshall in Canandaigua

John Marshall is, in my humble opinion, a national treasure...and is coming to Canandaigua in April! He will be teaching three different classes at the Canandaigua Fire Hall .

I was fortunate enough to take a class with him in Santa Fe a few years ago and he is a wonderful teacher and his collection of textiles is just awesome.

Take a look at his website:

http://www.johnmarshall.to/

You can also see photos and info on his garments here:

The cost of the Garment class is 325. for the two days
plus materials. The cost of The Katazome and Shibori Class is 425
plus materials and the cost of the Pigment class is 425. plus
materials. You can ask any questions or sign up by emailing Sara Burnett at:

The classes have been selected to give both beginning and continuing students a broad range of experiences. As always, you are very welcome to contact John, too, with any questions that may arise.

Sewing Day at Marcia's Studio

The Wolf Quilt is back and I like it much better now that I moved things around a bit. Now it needs quilting and a few added beads for sparkle.
Marcia had re-arranged the Katie Pasquini fabric and now it looks more like a version of Jet Trails.

And had another interesting composition up on the wall.

And Bev had done some great quilting on this piece.

The New...New Delhi Airport

I will be off soon on yet another trip to India (I finally got smart and now have a five year visa) and will be coming face to face with another new airport there.
They opened it in July in time for the Commonwealth Games. You can't enter without showing tickets and passport to a guard at the door.

In December and January numerous flights are cancelled in the am because of fog. This happened to my daughter Barbara and I on our first trip there years ago and we ended up taking a 10 hour taxi ride from Agra to Khajuraho.

Some of the jetways are more than a kilometer from check in so they have 90 automated walkways. Its still a long haul. I'm sure the cat who stole my donut years ago in the old airport is long gone. Progress I guess.

Another Snowy Wolcott Day...Time to Plan a Trip

Its yet another snowy day in Wolcott. Looking out my front door. My driveway is covered again.
But the snow does look lovely in the rare sunlight.

It's time to plan another trip to Asia. My first stop will be Kathmandu and, of course, breakfast at the Pumpernickel Bakery. Hot croissants and rolls right out of the oven first thing in the morning? Who could ask for anything more.

I just hope it warms up a bit. Kathmandu has been in the low 60's and 50's lately. BRrrrr.

The Bakery is a nice spot for tea and a bit of cake in the afternoon. No...no banana splits. You can't have everything.
The usual busy Thamel streets are quiet when I arrive early in the morning.

But the birds are out waiting for the occasional crumb.

Snow Day Activity- Should I Make Another Nepal Quilt?

Its a snow day so I am busy cooking a pot roast for dinner in my slow cooker and thinking about another quilt. I have all these batiks leftover from Nepal trips and think a quilt of just women might be nice.
I like the two with colored background and think I might make the background black.

I already have a Nepalese Quilt I finished a few weeks ago but it is scenes and not just women.

Project Iron Quilter Call for Contestants

The Grand Prize

Do you have what it takes to be a Project Iron Quilter?

The Genesee Valley Quilt Club (GVQC) in Rochester, N.Y. is looking for a few quilters with a sense of adventure to participate in the Project Iron Quilter Contest to be held in conjunction with the Quilt Show on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at the Gordon Field House, R.I.T., Rochester, N.Y.. If you can sew and have a sense of humor we want you. The concept, developed by Ruth White of the Tompkins County Quilt Guild in Ithaca, N.Y. was successfully launched at their quilt show in October, 2009. Ruth has already signed on to be a contestant at the GVQC Show’s event.

Fifteen to twenty contestants will bring their own sewing machines, cutting mats, rulers and rotary cutters. They may bring as much thread as they like but only a small amount of one fabric. In addition they may bring a shoebox full of embellishments and trim if they so desire. At the “starting time” a theme will be announced and contestants will make a grab for fabric from a large “stash” table. They will then have 3 ½ hours (with a break in the middle ) to construct their “masterpiece”. At the end the quilts will be judged, prizes awarded, and the quilts auctioned off for charity.

January 2011 RAFA Meeting

Sadly (for us anyway) Varda Main is leaving for Texas at the end of the month. She brought in to sell some things she can't move
And I brought in a few things from my trip to Thailand, Laos and Vietnam.

Margaret was finishing work on an African quilt inspired by her trip there last summer.

Anne displayed two felted hats.

Beth displayed a lovely pieced quilt.
That's Liz Scott behind her pretty handpainted quilt.

Varda had made a sweater from some wool leftover from another project.

Julia displayed her quilt for the upcoming show.

The orange strips in Elaine's pretty piece are beaded.

Maryanne Smith and I met for lunch yesterday to begin work on planning a location for the Ricky Tims Super Seminar projected to be coming to Rochester July 12-14, 2012. Sewing Day at Marcia's Studio

Wednesday was another great sewing day with friends at Marcia's Studio. Time to catch up on how our holiday went and perhaps get a little sewing done as well.
I was working on Wolf Quilt II (the new hopefully improved version) and it still isn't quite right.

Marcia had an interesting arrangement of Katie Pasquini Masopust's fabric up on the wall for a possible quilt.

And Pat worked on arranging blocks for a sample quilt for her upcoming class at the Genesee Valley Quilt Show in June.

Another variation which I personally liked much better. Kaffe Fassett fabrics.
