Trip to India March-April 2010- Walks around Puri

I had lots of time for walks around town.  My hotel was on a long strip along the beach.

Despite the fact that it was the end of the "tourist" season in India there were very few tourists in Puri surprisingly.  It draws people from Kolkata in particular to the beach area.

The downtown area by the famous Jagannath Mandir Temple is perhaps more of a draw than the beach.  During the main festival in the summer perhaps 100,000 people jam the square and the surrounding streets.

The woman in the green sari behind the cow was collecting the garbage.

A view of the temple from one of the side streets.  Non-Hindu's were not allowed inside.

Lots of stalls in the Temple area.

The Temple entrance.

Bread sellers near the temple

This huge square fills with worshipers during festivals.

Back near my hotel there was a little cafe where you could sit in front and watch the world go by.  Here a group of worshipers had gotten off a bus and were heading for a temple nearby.

And sometimes just groups of cows.
