India Nepal Trip Continued

On the north side of Indra Chowk there seems to be a perpetual open air scarf shop. It must be quite a feat to set up and take down every day. And tucked off in a corner totally out of sight are the Muslim bead sellers. Most booths are the size of a closet and if you come after dark they glow like jewels. In the past I have bought huge armloads of beads there. This year i restrained myself and only bought about 40 necklaces.

The courtyard of the home of the Living Goddess also known as Kumari Devi. She is chosen as a small child and serves until puberty. There are several Goddesses in the Valley but this one is the most important. She is the one who greets the King during the Indra Jatra Festival in the fall...although this year it was the Primeminister due to the unrest over the King. The Goddesses house is in Durber Square...the old temple area in Kathmandu.
