The Agra Red Fort

The Agra Red Fort is an awesome structure made of red sandstone and dominates the city. Entrance is through the Amar Singh gate and the path was designed for elephants. The fort was designed by both Akbar and Shah Jahan (the Taj builder) and dates from the 1600's. The model for the fort was the Gwalior Fort.

John Colvin's Tomb. He was the Lieutenant Governor of the Northwest Provinces during the 1857 Uprising. It looks very out of place in this courtyard.
Indian tourists love to have their photos taken with westerners for some reason.

Shah Jahan's son imprisoned him in the fort in his later years in order to seize power. The Shah could see his Taj Mahal from the window of his rooms.

The fort was surrounded by a massive moat.
